Final Project: Destiny Rose Quartz

Just finished this project up & I have to say im in love with it. It turned out so beautiful & the wonderful person featured in it loved it! It was a lot of fun to make, even though the hair was hard to shape & the clone tool was working against me. But nonetheless Im very proud of it & think its a great project to end the school year with!

"The experimental test of whether this art is great or good or minor or abysmal, is the effect it has on your own sense of the world and of yourself. Great art changes you." - Sister Wendy Beckett

This could be called a cause and effect situation, a piece needs a cause, a purpose to create an effect on someone. Art commenting on social or political issues will often change how people see these issues & hopefully compel them to act. Even if a piece is just made to express a feeling, it can inspire people, change how they think or connect to it.

Pulp Cover Process

I used the bottom picture as inspiration for the top & final pics, borrowing the title and pose. Using the space pattern from the first cover I added in stars for the background. Little editing later & i had the final product.

Pulp Cover: Night of the Memes

This second cover became a little rushed, & a good bit less serious. The woman, originally from a 40's comic, scared of the unknown: internet memes from approx. 60 years into the future.

Pulp Covers Progress
I started out with a very "comic-y" idea with the laser and zap, but found that it just wouldnt work. Next I added a title, more coloring, and a very bright cloudy sky like background. The background didnt fit the realistic theme found in pulp covers so it was trashed. I replaced that with a darker more realistic space scene. Lastly the finishing touches to the hair, eyes and corner were made.
Unlike the pulp covers i kept some transparency in there to add a more mystical look, & I love how that turned out.

Pulp Cover: Giant Woman

Finally done with this thing! Im really proud of how it turned out. It doesnt feel very "pulp-y" but it looks more like one of the more minimalistic & space centered covers.

Most of my inspiration came from Steven Universe. Shes an original character modeled after a gem fusion in the show. Shes a combination of sunstone, the gem on her torso & the color scheme and jade, which make up her hands.

This is still a work in progress but Im really proud of this one! Ive got a long way to go and a good bit to change but im very happy with it for the most part. Ill probably change/tone down the background & add other characters, add more text and maybe age it a bit depending on how it looks. I still need to add the stone texture in the rest of the hands and fill in the hair. I really love how the body/ outfit turned out tho.

What inspired me to make is one of my favorite shows, Steven Universe. The show has detailed and diverse characters, a beautiful yet simple animation style, and great humor. Its pretty great for a kids show. I definitely recommend it & plan to post the finished version of this soon!

Anachronism: chronologicalinconsistency in some arrangement, especially a juxtaposition of person(s), events, objects, or customs from different periods of time

Vaporwave: art movement [3] [4] that emerged in the early 2010s & was first characterized by its heavy use of samples from late 70's, '80s, '90s and early 2000's music, typically loungesmooth jazz. Samples are often pitched, layered or altered in classic chopped and screwed style.

In a sense these two styles are very similar, they both take samples from different eras & combine them to make something new. You could even say that the vaporwave style is an anachronism in and of itself.
i took an iconic image, Shakespeares Hamlet clutching a skull & brought him into modern times through the copy & skew style. The more i thought about it, the more i came to the conclusion that Shakespeare would probably fall in love with todays world, especially the technology. & emojis.

This is still a very rough work in progress shot. I still have to finish up the background & cut out the girl but its come a long way. Ill be uploading a final version soon.

My regrets.

"If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales"

 - Albert Einstein

A lot of fairy tales pose a problem at the core of their plots, which requires the reader to use problem solving to infer what happens next. This helps prepare them for real world issues by giving them something to relate them to.  The issue Im planning to incorporate into my piece is gendered social expectations. In the original tale of Cinderella, 'the step sisters were symbols of desperation, the shoe didnt fit so one cut off her toe, and one cut off her heel. How many children who read this grew into adults with bleeding feet, who mutilated themselves for the satisfaction of a king?'
( inspiration taken from "An Open letter from the Brothers Grimm to Walt Disney" by Khary Jackson )
Our society puts men in a place of power & women below that. This unfair balance creates a need for women to prove themselves & strive for the 'satisfaction of a king', in many cases they are forced to put other people before themselves.

The first pic was the paint outline of a question mark thing I used for a photography assignment which turned out looking cooler than the actual question mark. The second one was a product of me remembering that 'man i really missed painting'. so Tada! some abstract stuff from yours truely

So this is for Illustration Friday's prompt: Nefarious. I decided to do a fuming sort of canine creature after being inspired by another artists work. It turned out pretty good, I'd like to do more with the background but again I was running short on time. But I hope yall like it

This piece was prompted by IllustrationFridays suggestion of "Invention". Since I was short on time this was a little thrown together but I think it was effective. Its dedicated to the struggle every creative person goes through, whether it be lacking ideas for an art project or trying to come up with an invention. The feeling this piece portrays is universal.
